By-Laws




1. The President shall serve for a two-year term; shall preside at all meetings; shall be empowered to call special meetings when necessary; and shall exercise a general supervision of the organization. The President may appoint qualifying organization members to unfilled terms of office to be reaffirmed at the next family meeting.

2. The Vice President shall serve for a two-year term along with the President in order to fulfillgoals and objectives and to give more stability and continuity to the family organization. The Vice President willstep up to the office of President and serve in that position for two years.

3. The Secretary may remain in office indefinitely; shall prepare necessary correspondence, take and record all minutes; and perform other tasks in support of the organization.

4. The Financial Committee shall consist of a Treasurer (Committee Chairman), who shall serve for a six year term and may not be re-elected; a member who shall serve for a four-year term, but may be re-elected for one additional four-year term; a member who shall serve for a two-year term, but may be re-elected for two additional two-year terms; and will be governed by the following rules:
  1. The chairman and each committee member will come from different family lines within the Thomas John Family Organization.
  2. Appointments to the committee will be staggered so that one of the three committee members is replaced, or re-elected, every other year. (In the inaugural committee, the treasurer will serve for six (6) years, one member for four (4) years and the third member for two (2) years.
  3. The responsibilities of the financial committee shall be:
    1. To furnish detailed, accurate annual reports of the family organization funds including expenditures, investments, fund-raising activities, etc.
    2. To collect the annual family dues.
    3. To organize and conduct other activities for raising funds as directed by the family organization.
    4. Propose amendments as necessary for next year if needed, inrelations to the financial committee.
    5. Allchecks for expenses must be signed by two members of the financial committee.
    6. Allmonies are to be used just for the Thomas John Family Organization reunions or for projects voted upon at the business meeting such as research.
5. The Genealogist for Thomas John Ancestors and the Genealogist for Thomas John Descendants may remain in office indefinitely. The genealogist and members of any genealogical committees shall gather all genealogical data for Temple work; institute Temple excursions; and otherwise stimulate, encourage, and promote the genealogical and Temple interests of all members of this Association.

6. The Historian and Family Representatives may remain in office indefinitely. They willwork together with the President and Vice President in planning and organizing the family reunion; they will help in gathering and updating family information; they will encourage others to become part of the organization and attend the annual reunions.
